The Aadam Jacobs Collection, from the couch.
AJ Tapes is a free Apple TV app for browsing, searching, and streaming recordings from the Aadam Jacobs Collection. Audio streams directly from Archive.org — no ads, no accounts, no rehosting.
Free, no account needed. Currently in beta — App Store release planned.
Get it on your Apple TV
TestFlight on Apple TV takes one extra step compared to iPhone. Three minutes, start to finish.
Accept the invite
On your iPhone or iPad, open the TestFlight link above and accept the invite. If you don’t have TestFlight yet, the App Store will offer it first.
Open TestFlight on Apple TV
On your Apple TV, install the TestFlight app from the App Store and sign in with the same Apple Account.
Install AJ Tapes
AJ Tapes appears in TestFlight on the Apple TV. Install it, open it, and start listening.
What it looks like
The app is built around quiet browsing, readable metadata, and a full-screen now-playing mode for long listening sessions.
Simple on purpose
AJ Tapes is not trying to turn the collection into a social network. It is a focused way to find a show and listen.
Browse the catalog
Move through artists, years, performances, and recently added recordings with a TV remote.
Search shows and tracks
Find recordings by artist, venue, city, date, or track title.
Listen continuously
Gapless playback, continue-listening history, favorites, and full-screen visualizers.
Respect for the archive
- Free, non-commercial, no ads, no accounts.
- Nothing is rehosted or proxied through my servers.
- Audio streams directly from Archive.org download URLs.
- Built independently as a fan contribution, not an official AJC Project release.
Credit where it’s due
The AJC Project has done the hard work: preserving, transferring, identifying, and sharing these recordings. AJ Tapes is a living-room interface on top of that work — an independent fan contribution, not an official AJC Project release.
How it works
AJ Tapes runs on Stagecouch, a small FastAPI/MongoDB metadata backend. The backend handles catalog, search, home-screen rows, and recording metadata. The actual media stays on Archive.org and streams from there to the Apple TV.
Built with
SwiftUI · AVFoundation · Metal · Accelerate · FastAPI · MongoDB · Python · Archive.org metadata.
