AJ Tapes appears in TestFlight on the Apple TV. Install it, open it, and start listening.

What it looks like

The app is built around quiet browsing, readable metadata, and a full-screen now-playing mode for long listening sessions.

Simple on purpose

AJ Tapes is not trying to turn the collection into a social network. It is a focused way to find a show and listen.

Browse the catalog

Move through artists, years, performances, and recently added recordings with a TV remote.

Search shows and tracks

Find recordings by artist, venue, city, date, or track title.

Listen continuously

Gapless playback, continue-listening history, favorites, and full-screen visualizers.

Respect for the archive

  • Free, non-commercial, no ads, no accounts.
  • Nothing is rehosted or proxied through my servers.
  • Audio streams directly from Archive.org download URLs.
  • Built independently as a fan contribution, not an official AJC Project release.

Credit where it’s due

The AJC Project has done the hard work: preserving, transferring, identifying, and sharing these recordings. AJ Tapes is a living-room interface on top of that work — an independent fan contribution, not an official AJC Project release.

How it works

AJ Tapes runs on Stagecouch, a small FastAPI/MongoDB metadata backend. The backend handles catalog, search, home-screen rows, and recording metadata. The actual media stays on Archive.org and streams from there to the Apple TV.

Built with

SwiftUI · AVFoundation · Metal · Accelerate · FastAPI · MongoDB · Python · Archive.org metadata.
